We end Usagi Yojimbo's 40th year with 40 chawan tea cups!
Stan journeyed to his birthplace of Kyoto where he was given a private tour of the ancient outdoor kilns where master potters demonstrated their process of creating exquisite ceramicware. This inspired him to collaborate with talented potter Alex Rovang to create a chawan tea cup in his favorite aesthetic of wabi sabi. Each chawan is perfectly imperfect, showcasing the clay's stunningly rich and peaceful hues. A splash of crystal blue glaze creates a waterfall of vibrant colors washing onto the solid earthen vessel. Each chawan is formed on the potter's wheel then hand finished by adding texture with tumbled lava rock and crystalline lumped limestone. This is truly a beautiful expression of Stan's 40-year journey with Miyamoto Usagi: a humble, unpretentious road leading to an untranslatable perception of peacefulness through conviction and perseverance.
